There is a Western saying, "BURN THE BRIDGE BEHIND YOU AFTER CROSSING IT."

There is a Chinese saying, "SINK YOUR INVASION FLEET AFTER IT HAS LANDED."

They have the same meaning: CUT OFF YOUR RETREAT ROUTE, SO THAT YOUR ONLY OPTION IS TO ADVANCE.

It is an idiomatic way of defining DETERMINATION. It is DO OR DIE.
